British Science Week 2025

Through a wide range of exciting investigations and discussions, the “Change and Adapt” theme inspired curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of the ever-changing world we live in. It provided an exciting opportunity for pupils to explore how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics influence the constantly evolving world around us. Through engaging, hands-on workshops, children investigated the many ways living things, environments, technology, and even societies change and adapt over time in order to survive, improve, and thrive. Our workshops examined the rapid development of technology and how it has transformed everyday life. Children explored how inventions and innovations have adapted to meet the needs of an increasingly fast-paced and connected world. Discussions encouraged pupils to think critically about the relationship between humans and technology, considering not only how technology changes our lives, but also how our lifestyles adapt alongside technological advances. Environmental change and sustainability formed another important part of our Science Week programme. Pupils investigated how people can adapt their behaviours to reduce environmental impact through recycling, reducing waste, and making more sustainable choices. These activities highlighted the important role science and innovation play in protecting the future of our planet. Beyond Earth, learners explored how stars and celestial bodies change throughout their life cycles, gaining and losing mass over time. Our workshops also sparked curiosity about the possibility of life on other planets and how organisms elsewhere in the universe might adapt to different environments. The theme also encouraged pupils to reflect on how attitudes towards STEM and the people working within these fields continue to change. Children explored how perceptions of scientists are evolving, helping to challenge stereotypes and reinforce the message that science is for everyone. By showcasing diversity within STEM, our inspiring assemblies led pupils to see themselves as future scientists, engineers, inventors, and problem-solvers.

British Science Week 2024

British Science Week 2024 embraced the inspiring theme of “Time”, and our exciting series of linked workshops brought this concept to life through hands-on exploration and scientific discovery. Pupils immersed themselves in engaging activities focused on engineering, forces, construction, and the wonders of our world, while uncovering the vital role that time plays across every area of science. From exploring how the movement of stars and planets is governed by time and distance, to understanding the years of research, testing, and innovation required to develop groundbreaking technology, pupils across the UK discovered how deeply connected science is to the passage of time. Our workshops also encouraged learners to reflect on time throughout history, examine major scientific advancements of recent years, and consider the possibilities and challenges that shape our future.
