All the fun of the fairground in this challenge to keep a roller coaster running for as long as possible. This is a stand alone workshop with excellent opportunities for creativity and imagination.
Our KS3-KS4 Roller Coaster Challenge encourages creativity through team work. The Challenge is very real world too. All students want the longest possible ride on a roller coaster. That’s the Roller Coaster Challenge.
There are a number of engineering problems in this challenge. Students need to understand how to balance the interaction of energy, forces, friction and materials to best effect. The goal is to make the best value roller coaster – which runs for as long as possible. There is a competitive element too. Students work in teams to come up with the most successful and cost effective design.
Workshop leaders are on hand to answer any questions…and sell materials to the teams. The rest is up to the students.
