British Science Week 2022

This adaptation and camouflage workshop brings to life how animals and humans adapt to survive. Lots of fascinating visual aids and a great practical too.

In this brand new workshop children learn of the threats Cheetahs are facing, the pressures on many of our habitats and the importance of maintaining diversity in the health of individual species as well as our planet.

CSI Biometrics is pupil led – they learn how to investigate and identify someone, using their unique physical characteristics. This workshop has been recently improved to include CSI Fingerprints and it works from Reception to Yr 6.

We explore Samantha the child sized skeleton and learn about her major bones, how to keep them healthy and the meaning of good nutrition.

Each child takes their fingerprints. We then show them how to identify them and find the characteristics that make them unique.

Probably the most unusual model glider you will ever build – this workshop provides an investigation into the development of flight through the ages.

We investigate energy, what it is and what it can do. We look at how it makes things move and fly. We then make some rocket fuel and launch a rocket.

KS2 Rocket Challenge has Energy and Forces, and great Space stories. Everyone builds and test flies a rocket – then it’s time for a fun competition.

We look at the different types of materials we find in our homes. How can we reduce our consumption, reuse and correctly recycle items?

Let’s build the tallest tower to support an egg, using simple materials and great design.

All the fun of the fairground in this competitive workshop. You have to  build and keep your roller coaster running for as long as possible.

A box of construction materials, a couple of elastic bands, and limited time – whose vehicle will go the furthest? Energy, Forces, Friction, Fun!

Children investigate how a wind turbine works – they then compete to make the most efficient turbine. This unique workshop encourages creativity and really gets children thinking about the design of their construction!
